Starlilly Community Outreach Scholarship Program

SCOC would like to send our most precious and loving thanks to everyone who has donated since we got started! I wanted to take the time to add to our newsfeed here as to how your contributions have really helped. One particular person, she will remain nameless approached us as a participant at our last event on 2-22-2025. She was new to Vegas, only being here for 10 days. She was driving cabs in her last town and she was told that Vegas would be more lucrative for her to drive cabs. She had such a negative experience with her last cab company, subjecting her to routes during 'black ice' conditions and other circumstances that did not pay her, her last check. She found herself spiraling into homelessness and on the street that fast! This just goes to show that many of us are literally, "1 paycheck away of being homeless". She was scared and pessimistic, not knowing how she was going to make it, but we were there to ease some of her distress.

Nevertheless, we were able to help with clothes, food and pay for her drug/physical screenings and her cell phone bill as it was just a day away from being shut off. What we liked about her most is that she really made the effort to meet our team at the location and did not want to accept the SCOC Scholarship, but wanted a loan! No matter what we tried to do to convince and assure her that it was okay, her pride would not accept. We also assisted with many resources too that could help her get on her feet. She was ready, so we were ready to help in the small way that we could and that is what this is all about.
